

Aquamarine belongs tot he family of beryl. It got its name from the latin aqua marina (sea-water) words, wich is a really snappy name becouse it’s once bluish and another time greenish. It is the talisman gem of the sailors. Aquamarine contain iron, while the emerald wich also belongs to beryls, consist chrome and vanadium. It issues from pegmatites and granites and sometimes large crystals. In 1910 in Marambaia, Brazil (Minas Gerais) a 110,5 kg heavy, 48.5×42 cm large gemstone quality crystal was found. Sometimes the weaker coloured pieces are heated or radiotoned to get a nicer, darker colour. Localities: Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan, Mianmar (Burma), Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, India, Australia, etc.
