The name of cinnabar origins from the greek ’kinnabari’ word, it has been mined in 700 BC in its classic locality, near Almadén, Spain. Its grainy, earthy looking crystals are relatively rare. The most important ore of it is mercury (Warning: it is Toxic!). Its other larger localities are Serbia, Russia, USA (California) and China (Hunan), where beautiful crystals appear.
